Oops! Apparently I've accidentally deleted all of my images. I'll see about fixing that soon.

Beginnings and Endings

If you read the previous post, you know how overwhelmed I've been feeling lately trying to get everything done. Well, life thought now was a good time to throw more at us. In a week filled with work stress for us both, we have also had to rather suddenly say goodbye to a couple people that were dear to us.

Sometimes I find when things are rough, it helps for a while to do something 'normal.' So I'm going to take an hour and let my eyes dry a bit while I focus on something else and share some minis stuff with you.

Balancing My Interests

I was hoping that this past week I would be able to share with you some more fun things from my geekier side.  I have some fun things in miniatures I am really excited about.  Unfortunately, things got really really really busy so I didn't get any time to share. :( boo

maybe this cute hedgie can do my typing for me?

I love sewing. I love designing and drafting new clothes.  I love finding new textiles. I love stitching things together and ending up with something fun and wearable. I've had the opportunity to wear my new plaid dress three times now and I am still really really happy with it.

Painting the Redeemer Part I

In addition to a whole mound of sewing lately I've been working on several fun geekery projects. The first I'll share to day, the second (superexcitingspiffiness) i'll share with you next week.

Last year one of the models my husband won was this fun Menoth Warjack.

More New Patterns!

Earlier this year I posted about getting some new patterns and trying to organize them.  Well, we've had another friend gift a big box of patterns!  I'm excited about the patterns and excited to share them with you.

The majority of patterns come from Stretch & Sew.  They used to have a store near here and I already have a couple of patterns from both my mom's and my grandma's collections.  I was excited to find out that they are still around in the form of this website here, but disappointed to see that their innovation and sense of style seemed to stop in the 1980's.

Anyway, in the grouping that I found in the box, I was super stoked to find a bunch of men's patterns. I don't have many and I really am just beginning to delve into menswear.

Another Gluten Free Pizza

As I've several longer-term sewing projects that can't be posted for a while I might be posting some other things besides sewing for a while.

Recently one of my friends posted a recipe to my fb wall.  It was a version of a recipe i had read before, but this time the timing was right and I decided to give it a shot.  It's for a gluten free pizza crust made of cauliflower. Nutty, right? We decided to give it a shot.

Vilmon Finished

You may (or may not) remember that awhile back I had started work painting a new miniature, High Paladin Dartan Vilmon.  I had high hopes of finishing it in time for Lost Hemisphere's Paint the Target... but that was for... January i think...? lol oh well. Life gets busy sometimes and other priorities took precedence.

Super excited to have him finished though. My freehanding still needs quite a bit of work, but it's a good start.

I'm also not terribly happy with the shading on the green; turns out several of our paint colors need replaced... grainy chunks are bad. :P

The jewels turned out understated but ok and the hat is meh but i couldn't decide on a better color choice.

The thing i really like, though, is the metal.  I've been trying a few new things and listening and watching to other painters (we have a few really talented painters in our group of gaming friends). With that, this is the first time that I really like how my metals turned out. :)

I already have plans in the works for this month's Paint the Target entry - it's a warjack - and i'm pretty happy with the start i have on it.  I haven't ever completed a jack and have always found their lack of... well... cloth, intimidating. Cloth i know; i sew. Big flat-ish chunks of metal, though? Not so much.  It's good to have a challenge & I'm looking forward to it.

Hope your week is going well!

S7236 Finished

Today amid a torrent of rain and hail (ok, a very very brief torrent) I finished the Simplicity 7236 dress and managed to get a couple of decent pics of the finished product.
