Floral Embroidery: Part I

I know I haven't been posting much lately, and unfortunately that's going to continue a little while longer until things settle back down again.

In the mean time I haven't been completely without needle and thread.

Besides finally making a skirt for St Patrick's day out of that green fabric I bought last year (it wasn't great, so no pictures), I'm working on a little embroidery.

Many years ago a coworker gave me this counted thread embroidery kit.  (a quick search found that this company is still up and running if you're interested) I'm not normally one for florals but it's nice to have something to occupy my hands and quiet my mind when I need a break from the rollercoaster that life has temporarily become.

Unlike regular counted cross stitch the threads are not pulled tight which is giving a lovely knobbly look to the piece so far. I've also never worked a one-over-one before and have had to pull out my reading/painting glasses to be able to make sure my one strand of embroidery thread is going over the correct one strand of linen.

those teeny tiny brown stitches are the center of a flower I've now nearly finished

It may be another few weeks till I post again, but I'm still around. And with Google Reader closing its doors I've switched my feed reader over to Bloglovin. I'm really enjoying it and wish I had switched sooner.

Guess that's all for now!

Hope you're having a good spring!
